ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hi! I’m Afton, a Utah based artist.

A young woman with brown, shoulder-length hair, wearing a white t-shirt and loose jeans, is holding a large framed artwork featuring a bowl of yellow and orange fruits, with some written text and a biblical quote at the bottom.

What do I paint?

I specialize in still life oil paintings.

Through traditional imagery I create allegorical art symbolic of scripture passages from the Bible and Book of Mormon.

Why?

Painting has become a form of worship and a spiritual outlet for me since returning home from my mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Japan. I feel that all glory and inspiration connected is owed to God.

In essence, I paint what I am most passionate about - the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the grace extended to me by His atonement.

I hope that, whether religious or not, you can find joy and connection to my art and permitting find a piece you’d like in your home! I love the idea of paintings that have varied meaning not blatantly obvious to the eye, and I love seeing the meaning change from person to person. My connection with this work is a small part of what it can mean to others and that to me encapsulates the equivocal beauty of art.
